What is a GOOD day? Have you forgotten?

Image from One Kings Lane
Yesterday I talked with a friend as I came out of our RV park laundry room.  I was washing, drying, folding and schlepping detergent between my park model and that room several blocks away.  He was riding his bicycle around bemoaning a day on the golf course.

"How are you doing?" I asked in that rhetorical way.
"Oh, I'm OK," he replied sounding as though he might cry.
"Are you having a problem?" thinking I should be worried.
"Oh, I just returned from a round of golf and I didn't play good today." was his answer.

I squinted my eyes in that way I have of doing and thought what is wrong with this picture?  I'm a golfer and I understand how the game can hurt your feelings and your ego and even your back.  But I want a sticker for my car that says "The worst day spent golfing is better than the best day doing anything else."

So the questions are Have we forgotten how to be happy? What is a good day? Do we overlook the beautiful day and our good fortune and search for a negative to focus on?  Let me know what you think.

  1. A good day is one in which I get to visit with my grandson and play and laugh with him... for just the right amount of time, not all day long until I am exhausted and not for just five minutes. A day I can spend time reading and maybe a bit of writing, and a lot of just sitting and thinking

  2. Really, a good day is almost any day I wake up next to my wife, my family is healthy, and my insurance company doesn't raise my premiums.

Seriously, I firmly believe it is really about attitude. Even washing laundry can be enjoyable if you realize how many folks don't have the ability to do so as easily as we, and while the machines are doing their thing you can read, blog, or simply let your mind wander.

  3. Thank you for your comments Bob and Corina. You both tell the story...it what you look for in the day that makes it good. Happiness (and a good golf game) happens in the six inches between our ears!

  4. "A good day" is just waking up from a sound sleep w/my lovely wife, placing my hand over my heart and find it is still beating. When you are 74 and you find many of your acquaintances are already gone, you say, "I'm going to have a good day." Be thankful for what you have, where you are and what you are still able to do. I thank my wife every day for reminding me of what a good day really is. Thanks BT.
