Do you ever want to "act" like your Grandma?

See, the thing is I like to shop and work on two blogs and have a beautiful house/yard. I like to be trendy.   But today...today I just want to look like my grandma.  I want to wear sensible shoes and do crochet.  I want to put a beautiful hat on my head when I leave the house.   I want to pray a little.

Not my Grandmother...just me!
On these days when I don't care about living a long time or coloring my hair, I think about how simple it was when women weren't expected to be young forever.  It would be nice, just once in a while, to be more like my grandmother...happy in my own skin.

Just a thought.

  1. I love acting like my Nana. She was a wonderful role model of just loving us because we came to visit and color on her living room floor.

  2. Interesting post. I had two extremely different Grandmas. One was quite overweight, long white hair in a bun, dowdy clothes, stayed home and moved slowly. The other was thin, loved trendy clothes and hairstyles, a bundle of energy, ran a business, traveled and generally embraced an invigorating life. So it has left me thinking about who I want to be and picking and choosing the elements.

  3. thank you for your comments...isn't interesting that our "mental image" of what a grandmother should be is so different. I only knew my grandmother as a woman that acted old. We lived a very small town life and my grandparents were the pioneers that came early and never left.

    Come back soon.

  4. Interesting post. . . I think a lot about being more like my Grandma. She raised us and I loved her more than anything. She passed away 2 years ago and was nearly 100 years old. I was so fortunate to have had her in my life that long. She was stylish, smart with money, an astute business woman and kept an immaculate home. We always thought she acted a bit like Hyacinth Bucket from the British comedy, but we loved her in spite of it. . lol. If I could be even 1/2 of the woman she was, I would die a happy girl.

  5. His Way or Her Way

What a wonderful memory you have...living near a Grandmother Hyacinth Bucket. I am sure it was a little maddening and wonderful at the same time.

As for me, t is always comforting for me to settle into my grandmothers heart for a little while. She had a calm demeanor about her. She loved her soap operas and boiled beef and sugar cookies. Her house was so neat and tidy but she always let my children play in her pot and pan drawer. I loved that so much.

    Thank you for the comment.
