Riviera Maya, Mexico: Packing for travel..YIKES!

The suitcases are on the bed and all my hot weather clothes are packed in vacuum sealed bags. I don't know any other way to pack. Not that I haven't tried! I came home to Oregon once without half of my clothes. The car was not over crowded but I dressed like a clown for a whole summer. What was I thinking?

When it comes to all that other stuff...cords, medications, lotions, make-up, books, travel guides and jewelry...I just pray that I get it right. I know I need to make lists and it is a good idea. But here is the deal...I don't know what I don't know. When we travel to a new place it doesn't matter how much I read up on the location. I still do not know more than I know.

So here goes...we are leaving for Playa del Carmen on the Yucatan Peninsula Saturday morning bright and early. I hear it is a lot like the USA but I am sure we will find Mexico too. That is important to both of us. We will be gone for two weeks. Wish us luck. I will keep posting blogs with pictures at every opportunity. Wish us luck on that too! The Mayan Ruins are calling my name.

  1. Have a great time! My brother used to own a condo there and said it had a very European plus Mexican feel.

  2. I find that if I pack a good five to seven days ahead, I have time to ruminate over the small things I may have overlooked, adding them as they pop into my brain.

    Have a wonderful trip!

  3. We have traveled so much that I am on auto pilot. But it doesn't matter. I still can make a mistake! The idea of packing early is something I have tried. What happens with me is I forget what is in there and am totally befuddled.

  4. How exciting! It should feel very different from Oregon, but a nice transition for your eventual move back to Tucson for the winter.

Betty uses dozens of plastic bags to pack, too. It sweems to work well for us. But, she (and I) do start packing quite early. We don't do well if we wait until the last minute.

  5. We were there last month. It was very warm, humid, beautiful!

The only thing I forgot to pack was my lightweight pajamas.
