"I am not buying you anymore clothes," he said.

Every time I pack to leave for a vacation I learn something about myself. How about you? Do you find that you really haven't taken a good look at what you like lately? Are you paying attention to how you shop and what you actually own?

My husband and I were entering our golf course restaurant doors when I said that I liked my friends clothes better than mine and I wanted new stuff. Guess what he said?

"I am not buying you anymore clothes!"

Now you need to know that my husband doesn't control my shopping because he knows we are a team. But he says things like that once in awhile. He is so cute when he gets all huffy.

And the truth is I forget that he is not in control totally sometimes.

"How dare he say that", I thought, "I need stuff...I know I do."

Then I began packing for a vacation to Dubai we will be starting next week. It turns out I like what I have and I like black a lot and I maybe should not shop clearance sales because there are things in drawers and hangers that I didn't remember owning and don't actually fit the real me. (I admit there is a "dream Barbara" and she is a size smaller than the real one.)

My husband was SOOOOOO right. I do not need any new clothes. Darn! The scary part is I might have gone shopping just because I was told I couldn't. Saved by vacation packing once again.

Have a wonderful day.

  2. Isn't it easy to put your foot in your mouth even when you don't even really mean what you say? My wife, Barbara, knows she can buy what she wants and needs because I know she is never frivolous with her spending and besides "I really can't tell her she can't do something she wants to do because I don't control her."

  3. Have a great trip. On vacation I am some times surprised how well my clothes go together and then wonder if I should purge the closet when I get home!

    1. That is so true...anything that does not go and is the right season needs to go away. So why don't I do that?

I know what you mean. Sometimes we don't remember what we already have until we start going through everything. Enjoy your trip. Safe passage.

    1. I can't find anything because I buy everything to mix and match. It only takes about 3 things of the same color to confuse me completely.

  6. Ah yes, must resist the temptation to buy "wish I were that size" clothes.

  7. Well, I have the opposite problem. My kids are always telling me I need something new, and I'm always saying I don't need anything. Ha! Have a wonderful vacation!!

  8. I tend to buy things I don't need just because. But with clothes, it's almost always something to do with exercise. I clean out my closets every once in awhile and send unworn things back to Goodwill (where I got them). :-)

  9. Hi Barbara! I'm a bit different...I far prefer to use every bit of my money on travel adventures. Finding an out of the way place to eat and/or taking an unplanned excursion.. I don't really care what I'm wearing. Glad to hear you caught yourself with the clothes. Best to travel light, right? ~Kathy
