I once read a story where a nearly-spent rifle bullet struck a young man in the chest. He and a friend were simply walking down a quiet street and this bullet came out of nowhere and struck him. It left a nasty bruise, but, thankfully, nothing else. The police said it must have been as the very end of its flight. So that has bothered me ever since.
