Elena at age 10 in Tombstone AZ |
I was at a party with family and all of my midlife friends. We were talking about turning 21 and almost everyone had a story to tell. On the day they turned 21 there were things that they did to mark the anniversary...parties with friends, beer, revelry! Wow, I thought. I have no memories of that day at all. What is that all about?
So today I am invited to go on a wine tasting tour with my grandchild, her mother and her sister-in-law. I feel like it is my birthday because that is what I would have chosen...life is good isn't it? I hope Elena is as happy as I am and I hope when she is old, she has wonderful memories of this day.
What a beautiful day.
Happy Birthday Elena!

How fun Barbara for all of you. I don't have a 21 birthday story either :(!
ReplyDeleteWe had such a wonderful day...now I have a 21st birthday story too! )
DeleteGosh, I can't remember the day I turned 21 so long ago. I don't even remember waiting for it.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it was a big deal back when I turned 21...it was whether you would drink or not. That is how I remember it.
DeleteOh, I remember the day I turned 21. A policeman friend picked me up just a little after midnight (after he got off his shift) and took me for my first "official" drink at a bar frequented by other officers. It was a lot of fun! I cut up my fake ID in front of them - much to their delight.
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, you lived a much more exciting life than I did! I kinda remember being tired!
DeleteHow fun! Lucky you! I don’t recall doing anything particular on my 21st-was in nursing school so I’m sure there were hijinx! Our son did it up for his-he and his guys dressed up ala The Rat Pack and with a designated driver went for martinis!
ReplyDeleteNow that is so cool...I want to do that only dress up like some actresses.
DeleteI remember mine well! I was a senior in college living in the dorm and my boyfriend came to visit and we 'got' engaged. He had secretly bought me a beautiful Keepsake (are they still around?) diamond ring. We were married 26 years, 3 kids, and living a pretty good life when he died suddenly from a heart attack at age 48. I am doing well- soon to be 4 grandkids and still working and loving my job at age 70. Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and real story of how life can turn out. You go girl...I admire you work life too. Take care.
DeleteI also remember my 21st birthday because I went out for wine with a bunch of friends. I was able to drink it myself for the first time in a restaurant! I was already a mother twice but still couldn't enjoy a glass of wine with my friends until then! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful life...wine, friends and a mother to boot! WOW! :)
