What do YOU know?

Have I said this before......?

Having been a mother/grandmother/great-grandmother/teacher for over 50 years a lot of words spoken by children have gone in one ear and out the other. Yet I never cease to be amaze.
I simply bought his spices and then said "Thank you!" You
will notice that the Muslim man did not touch me even
though he pretended to do so. That would not have been
courteous in his world. Dubai, UAE 2015

As I sat the kindergartners every day for the last 5 years of my career I learned I could not even possibly guess what was going on inside all those minds. I only got a small glimpse when I asked the simple question, "What do YOU know?" It was amazing the answers that came, all different, as I went around the circle of the children seated before me.

If you were to ask me that question today my answer would be,
"Good manners never go out of style." I think we are lifted up by the small courtesies that make up an ordinary day.
So today I am asking you, "what do YOU know?"

Have a wonderful day!

  1. I know your 50 years of wisdom have a lot to teach me. I also know that diversity makes life interesting, not threatening.

    1. I live in your world RJ. Diversity is why we moved to a small eastern Oregon town with our children. The school had a large hispanic population, Japanese farmer's children and of course northern European's like ourselves. We did not have many black children but there were some. We loved that life and all the colorful experiences it brought to all of us.

  2. Hi Barbara! I KNOW that one of the best things about being a blogger is meeting other bloggers who offer interesting and thought-provoking ideas on a regular basis--like you. I LOVE learning new things and enjoy having my mind teased with new thoughts. And I'd actually love to read what some of those kids told you when you asked the question. ~Kathy

    1. Blogging has expanded my world more than I can even explain to people that do not have that connection. I will try to conjure up my kindergarten classroom experiences one day soon. :)

  3. I know that almost everyone in the world today is crazy. Nobody makes any sense (to me) anymore nor do most of them possess common sense. Reasoning has gone out the window. It's every person for themselves. Most everyone are liars, cheaters and make up amazing untrue stories about themselves. Authenticity is an ancient descriptive non-word in today's society.
Only my dog makes sense to me. She lives a very balanced life. Her needs are simple and easily met. More people should live like my dog. The world would be a much kinder and safer place.

    1. I truly believe that the public’s unwilliness to pay for education is to blame.

  4. I know that no matter where in the world we live, we are all the same. And we all want the same things.

  5. I know that half the country has simply lost their mind in their hatred. And the other half has to find a way to overcome that hate without sinking into similar yet oh-so-different hate themselves. Sorry for being a debbie downer.

    1. I smiled at your response. Each half thinks the other is crazy.
